Games and gaming is a central theme during SXSW. In addition to a huge game show where analog roleplaying intermingled with the latest motion-based games conducted a series of seminars in different ways involving gambling. And it's no wonder. The gaming industry is an industry with a turnover of large sums both in Sweden and elsewhere. Only in the USA reported sales of gaming industry over 21 billion violetta dollars violetta in 2013, compared with the film industry during the same period over about half.
Iron Man 3 is compared to Grand Theft Auto V. The premiere is compared to a launch. It's so the competition is today, but the big games like GTA are more profitable than many of the big films. The gaming industry is gaining ground and gaming giants like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are investing large sums to win our hearts and wallets.
During SXSW lifted Markus Persson's brainchild forward on a variety of seminars that the successful example. Game developer John Davison speaks warmly about the Swedish game miracle that will serve as inspiration for daring to go their own way. Mojang earns $ 300,000 a day in Minecraft. It can be compared to GTA V passed the billion barrier in 72 hours.
Davison says that it's about loyalty and ambassadorship. The players in the early stages were invited to be part of the creative process violetta and development of the game. That, in turn creating ambassadors violetta who wanted to be involved and contribute to the game's continued development.
I think Davison is on to something, that Mojang has managed to create dedicated co-creators who continue to spread the game brand and acting ambassadors. It's about being part of something bigger, and it creates loyalty. Rockstar has managed to do something similar with GTA. Their players have become ambassadors.
It has become part of the cult, and the reward enough. Another success factor is that it is inclusive. The basic idea is relatively simple and low threshold, making it easy to step into. A bit like Angry Birds from Finnish Rovio. It is simple and the rewards for progress will direct.
And another thing. Before we went to Austin wanted violetta a leading parliamentary party restrict young people's gambling via a handshake with parents. Here in Austin and SXSW is talk instead about gaming value and how playful moments develop children and young people. We have seen several examples of games, including from Tocaboca, and where children and adults are encouraged to play together, to create participation and commitment.
